"Spirit Animals" @ Black Amethyst Tattoo Gallery
July 30, 2016: 7-11 pm opening at Green Bench Brewery
The concept of this show is right up my alley, and if I wasn't creating a piece for this show, I would definitely be attending! I will be amongst 30 other St. Pete artists showing a piece showcasing a spirit animal. Because l have a few animals that have revealed themselves in my life, I will be creating something unexpected for my piece, as usual. All artists received a long rectangular wood panel to create on, and because of this, I will be using it as a base to build something 3D off of. I thought about painting on the wood, but I wanted to take full advantage of the solid smooth surface. In progress pics will be showing up in my blog section as they come! The opening will take place at Green Bench Brewery and will reside at Black Amethyst for the rest of the time.
Art in the Park artist showcase at Dillard's in the Countryside Mall, Clearwater
April 29, 2016 : 6-9 pm
Dunedin Fine art Center has asked me to participate in this "artist in the park" style instructor artist showcase. There will be DFAC artists and instructors sprinkled throughout the store demonstrating, showing and selling work.
I will have a table set up on the handbag pad where I will be painting a palm bark mask and promoting my upcoming "Creating Masks from Nature" palm bark mask workshop at Dunedin Fine Art Center. I will be bringing palm bark masks for sale, which I have made four new pieces for. Even though any size is fun, I have been wanting to create a large horned mask, which I have recently finished. It is an antelope, and it is about 4 feet tall and I am excited to show it for the first time tonight! |

"In Our Wake" Two Person Art Exhibit at Studio@620
April 24- May 2, 2015
“In Our Wake" is a two-person show featuring work that celebrates the persistence of wildlife in a manmade landscape. Oil painter Perry deVick and sculptor/painter DemiGod each present a symbiotic complement to the other’s work. The artwork opens a window to an alternate Tampa Bay, one devoid of people. What creatures would come out of hiding? How would they interact with the trappings of human civilization without us around? This body of work is a deeper, darker imagining of traditional Florida wildlife. Below, an excerpt taken from my artist statement: What would remain if humankind ceased to exist? This body of work shows what possibly could be created, in our stead, after we are gone. It would give Mother Nature a chance to preserve, honor, and recognize what was and is important to them: community, family and a spiritual connection to the earth. They would be able to grieve and honor their dead as they see fit; in a way, exist in their own version of zoolatry. -DemiGod |
