6x10 foot Home Office Floor Covering
My clients Diana and Marshall were looking for a unique floor covering solution for their home office that they could roll a desk chair over. They were art collectors, so I went to their eclectic home to gather some inspiration from the area the rug would lay. It also happened that they drew inspiration from me as well, because they pointed out a detail from a mixed media piece I had done that featured patterned ribbon and smooth stone beads. I took this information and sketched out a few different designs for them to choose from. From there, I began painting, sponging and stenciling and would send progress pictures as the painting was coming along.
At the big reveal, the clients were delighted at the outcome. It looked amazing rolled out on the floor of their office, and the colors I used in the rug complimented their surrounding artwork, collections and books. The clients’ interior designer, Amanda, from Design: Amanda Le, had the idea to hide some beetles in the design. This was a special surprise for their grandchildren to find, which was also a great way to incorporate Diana’s affinity for jeweled beetles. The slideshow below show the progress of the floor cloth and Diana finding the 3 special beetles I tried my best to hide in the stenciled ribbon detail!
